HEALTHCARE FACILITY BACKGROUND
The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center is comprised of the following schools: Graduate, Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry and Pharmacy. This renowned cluster of health sciences institutions includes 2 teaching hospitals, the University of Colorado Hospital and Colorado Psychiatric Health, the NCI designated University of Colorado Cancer Center, and a constellation of research and treatment institutions that are listed among the most prestigious in the country.
MECHANICAL CONSTRUCTION OBJECTIVES
To accommodate the thousands of students, faculty, staff, patients and their families from all over the world that stream in and out of the buildings everyday, the University of Colorado Health Sciences is continually upgrading and expanding its mechanical plumbing and HVAC systems.
DESIGN/ASSIST & BIM SOLUTIONS
The original mechanical construction design/assist project required Trautman & Shreve, Inc. to take the lead with development of 3-D CAD fully coordinated drawings. These Building Information Modeling (BIM) diagrams included schematics for structural, electrical, fire protection, mechanical and plumbing systems. In doing so, Trautman & Shreve identified architectural, structural, and other discipline conflicts to coordinate proper preconstruction documentation prior to construction. This provided significant efficiencies in the field through a maximized fabrication process while eliminating the need for rework.
